Champions League 2022: Madrid Advances, 10-Man City Stopped, Juveniles on the Verge of Elimination

While you were sleeping last night, Maccabeus Haifa defeated Juveniles whereas Copenhagen stopped a 10-man City.

In yesterday’s Champions League (CL) clashes, Maccabeus Haifa won its first match since 2003 by defeating Juveniles in a Group H match. With the loss and only two remaining group games, Juveniles is on the verge of getting eliminated from this year’s CL. In Group F, although Madrid drew its match against Donetsk, the team proceeded to the knockout stage with 10 points; a similar feat Manchester City achieved last night as well.

On the day

City vs. FC Copenhagen

In yesterday’s CL bout, City’s Sergio Gomez received a red card and Pep’s team was reduced to 10 players. However, against a team like Copenhagen, it should have been an easy win. Somehow, Copenhagen kept its defensive line-up intact and drew the match. City with 10 points proceeded to the knock-out stage.

Madrid vs. Donetsk

For Madrid, winning the game against Ukraine’s Donetsk should have been a simple affair. However, the Spaniard giant could only manage a draw; thanks to a crucial Rudiger-equalizer. With two games in hand and 10 points on the table, Madrid, similar to Man City, entered the knock-out stage.

Juventus’ embarrassing defeat

In 2003, Maccabeus Haifa won its last CL match against Manchester United by scoring three goals. The struggling team of Juveniles took Haifa lightly and conceded two goals in the first half. A strong defensive second half from Haifa did not allow Juveniles to draw an equalizer or win. With the loss, Juveniles is in the third spot in Group H with three points from four matches.

Mbappe to rescue

In a battle for the top spot, PSG and Benefice took on each other in a Group H match. Kylian Mapper's penalty gave a lead to PSG, but a penalty was awarded to Benfica as well. The match ended in a draw and PSG with one point secured the tabletop. With two remaining games, PSG and Benefice are likely to reach the knock-out stages whereas Juveniles and Haifa will bid goodbye to this year’s CL.
